Pressure Vessel Heads

Semi–Ellipsoidal Dished Ends

2:1 Semi-Ellipsoidal dished heads are deeper and stronger than the more popular torispherical dished heads.

The greater depth results in the head being more difficult to form, and this makes them more expensive to manufacture. However, the cost is offset by a potential reduction in the specified thickness due to the dished head having greater overall strength and resistance to pressure.

1. Product Description

Ellipsoidal dish end (also called elliptical head or elliptical dish end) is usually made with Carbon steel, stainless steel, austenitic and non ferritic metals that can be cold worked. The elliptical dish end radius varies between the major and minor axis usually with the ratio is 2:1. The shape of this ellipsoidal head is more economical, because the height of the head is just a fraction of the diameter. Our tank head can be customized according to your needs. We can choose the most suitable model for you depending on your demands on shape, thickness, material and diameter.

2. Main Features
- Elliptical head is composed of half ellipsoid and a cylindrical straight segments. The Straight section can avoid mutation of radius of curvature between the connection welds of the head and cylinder, thus improving the stress status of the welds.
- As The Meridian curvature change of ellipsoidal part of the tank head is smooth and continuous, the stress distribute uniformly.
- Easy to punch forming compared with the hemispherical head, because the depth of ellipsoidal head is smaller than the hemispherical head. (elliptical end cap)
